Student Success First
Changing learning and workforce development at technical colleges and industries across the United States!
Fast Track to High Tech is a micro-credentialing tool that leads to skilled jobs and careers in multiple industries. Stacking credentials, tranferring credentials no matter where you work is key to success in many, many college programs. To create FT2HT my skill in competency-based needs assessment and identification, assessing and sequencing knowledge and skills, and aligning to business and community needs was tested. It had to be streamlined with quick completion of studies and requirements. A lot to ask for, but "Delivery" is my middle name.
Materials Washington and NanoDays are just two examples of the many hands-on learning experiences that I've designed and developed over my career. Both were intended to raise awareness about careers in these fields and to address the pipeline supply between college and high school. K-12 students participated in activities led by experts in fields such as lay-up and lathing. NanoDays used simple activities to teach nano concepts such as thin films and how sunscreen works. I was involved in design and development of each event, they spanned many state and national venues such as AZ SciTech and I used them to attract students to materials and nano programs at colleges. If education is your product, yes, you must market it. I can do that.
Guitar Building workshop
I was involved in marketing this program. I created the videos that demonstrate the skills developed in the workshop. Students build a REAL electric guitar to learn everything from CAD design to the material used and how formed, and the tonality created by not only material used but the electronics too. This workship spawned many, many other workshops using Lutherie to teach skills that can be transferred to jobs and careers in a variety of industries.. It demonstrates creativity and innovation in teaching... something I excel at.
Industry Alignment
Partnering with states, colleges and large industry to bring technology education to life!
Techmaker is an online tool for bringing business and technology education together. A project that was first-of-its-kind and has led in the development of similar projects. Techmaker was born in the labs at Sandia and Los Alamos to help them bring the technology from the labs to market. I led panels of scientists, venture capitalists, business professionals in mapping out the knowledge, skill, ability to get technology into the hands of users. The map was used to help craft courses of study, curriculum , and pathways to jobs and careers. I partnered with New Mexico Workforce Development on this 3-year-long project. It employed my knowledge and skill in design, development, teaching technology, and multimedia/alternative learning skills, not to mention mentoring and project leadership. The project was published in INNOVATION magazine, July, 2010 where I coined the term "technopreneurship." You heard it here first.
I worked at a large Semiconductor company for many years. My career started out as an internship, a requirement of my masters degree. They liked me so they hired me to manage training. They put me to work doing video at first, that led to designing and creating multimedia learning and I ended up managing a first-of-its-kind 5,000 sq ft. multimedia learning lab. I conceived of it, designed it, created it, selected the media and the staff, and I managed the budget and staff for 5 years. Thousands of employees came to my lab to get equipment and safety training. Biggest accomplishment (besides getting a company to give me square footage) was working with the local college district to get all of the multimedia training accredited; that means it counted toward a certificate or degree at the college. This required cross-walking every single learning objective in the multimedia courses offered in my lab to the face-to-face courses offered at the college. I had to prove that the multimedia courses were worthy of college credits. Well I did it, and now online/multimedia learning is part of just about every course/program in any college, but it wasn't always that way. I developed extreme skills in work with industry and academia processes and policy, and Ops managers, my lab was on-of-a-kind and so am I, I'll bring all of this to CAC Excellence.
NSF ATE and ME
I am proud to have been involved with one of the best kept secrets in technology education for about 2 decades now. The National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education program has revolutionized many things in education. Most recently, the state of Washington has declared the ATE program instrumental and essential if we want to save Career and Technical Education
--Community College Daily, July 2026. Many of my programs and projects have been originated in Washington, so I'm taking credit. CTE is at the core of what I do, I pledge, if elected to bring all of my knowledge to revolutionize CTE for CAC. Vote for me and watch me go!
Faculty & Staff Excellence
Faculty opporunities and workshops that have spread throughout the technology education community!
Externship programs that I designed and created are now being cloned and delivered at technical colleges across the country. Externships are a unique way to get faculty up to speed on new technology and industry operations. Faculty are placed with an industry partner to work on a team project. Faculty not only gain the knowledge and skill to use the technology, they also gain the knowledge and skill about how to bring what they learned back to their classroom. I serve as "match maker," assessor, and teacher on this program and have developed skills in working with all types of faculty in an advanced technology setting.
Working with professionals, industry partners, and technical colleges across the country, M-STEM was a one-of-a-kind faculty education workshop that I designed for, staffed, and co-managed for 10 years. The Material in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (M-STEM) workshop was funded by a National Science Foundation grant which I served on. Hundreds of professionals met to teach and learn from each other the new technology that was needed in college classrooms. To further its impact, M-STEM was held every year at a different world-class education location to give exposure to new ways of teaching, new classroom possibilities. Through M-STEM I gained knowledge and experience about teaching technology at a national level. If you have this kind of experience, you have superior ability to improve programs and processes and that's what I'll do at CAC.
I authored, created, managed and served as Principal Investigator on a National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education Grant to create an online library for Semiconductor education.. managing a multimillion dollar budget over a 3-year span and nationally distributed staff and talent, I created a learning library that was one of the first of its kind for the NSF.
Creating curated assets for the library was our main job. That meant working with industry, faculty, and colleges to craft opportunities and incentive to create learning material for the library. Networks became one of the most prolific ATE online centers for the NSF, a unique experience that gave me the competence and couage to manage large projects, challenging circumstances and technology all in one.
Community Engagement
Community involvement from civics education at Apache Junction High School to serving on commissions and running non-profit organizations.
The Bill of Rights Celebration and Essay Contest brings Constitutional Scholars to my community every year and to Apache Junction High School to teach about our rights and responsibilities as citizens. In our fifth year, we have impacted hundreds of kids, parents, community members. Organizing events like these has established "community education pedagogy" as a way to teach and influence our youth and create a culture of civic duty. Because of this project, I've started a civics education revolution and built trust. The volunteers involved and the essay participants have dubbed themselves, BOR Guardians.
In 2010 nine of our state parks were threatened with closure, Lost Dutchman was one of them. I took the lead to save the park, being the first to collect donations for the park with my dog friendly and accessibility hikes and later leading the Friends of Lost Dutchman State Park, an affiliate of the State Parks Foundation, for 14 years. Our mission is to bring thousands of dollars to the park providing needed equipment and amenities, and to bring thousands of visitors with our education programs, annual wine tasting, and our solar trial. Through this activity I've developed partnerships with most of the businesses and organizations in the area and a reputation for strong leadership and trustworthiness.
I was appointed D5 Open Space and Trails Commissioner in recognition of my service and dedication to protecting and saving our open spaces and property rights. Next to Faith, Family, and improving the lives of others, this is what I fight for. I learned about our local government and the people that work there, and I was one of the commissioners responsible for garnering awards for the Peralta Regional Park, the first Pinal County regional park. My leadership helped raise awareness about our work as commissioners and guardians of our open space and trails. Check out #jeffserdy in the video.
Accountability, Transparency, Rule-of-Law
A Governing Board member has but one voice and one vote. It is important that we work together within the law and our power to help CAC get what it wants, a "World Class Education Experience and Place to Work." To do that, we must all remember that without these 3 things, there is no governance.
